Legal issues of commercial and investment banking

This thesis is dedicated to the Financial Law, namely to a special part of this branch of law - Banking Law, with a special focus on legal aspects of commercial and investment banking. This thesis concentrates on the specifics of the universal banking system applied in the Czech Republic. Chapter 1 deals with the general terms and concepts of the Banking Law, namely with the different types of banks and/or other financial institutions, as well as explanation of their different functions in the banking system of the Czech Republic. This chapter furthermore provides general overview of the structure of the banking and financial system of the Czech Republic. Chapter 2 covers the functions and characteristics of two fundamental types of banks, i.e. of commercial and investment banks and provides characteristics of their common features as well as the differences between them, from the perspectives of economics and law. Chapter 3 concentrates on three different banking models, namely on model of universal banking system, segmented banking system and hybrid banking system. This chapter also provides comparison of pros and cons of the above mentioned banking models. This bachelor thesis is divided into the theoretical and practical part. Theoretical part informs about essential terms from monetary policy, central and commercial banking and through graphical elements evaluate the impact of central bank´s instruments on the banking sector. In practical part is on real data using statistical methods analysed the relation between the central bank and interbank market and commercial banking. Further is analysed the impact of monetary policy of central bank on the banking sector. In the last part is compared the development and structure of the banking sector´s profit in both countries.

Evaluation of the development of new banks in the Czech banking market

This bachelor thesis on the topic Evaluation of development of new banks in the Czech banking market responds to new entrants to the market in the years 2007, 2010 and 2011, based on an analysis of three selected banks, Air Bank, Fio bank and ZUNO BANK, trying to evaluate the performance of these banks. Evaluation is based on the examination of the financial statements for the years 2010 to 2014 and provides a summary of selected indicators of banks and author´s commentary. After completing the work, it is clear that Air Bank and Fio bank were able to build a stable position in the market and ranked among the medium-sized banks. On the contrary ZUNO BANK after a deeper examination shows signs of instability and is now offered for sale by the owners. New banks on the market today have an important position, they healthily compete with traditional banks and have high potential.
Investment and commercial banking in the United Kingdom

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyze the current structure of banking in the UK and the british regulatory and supervision framework, identify key weaknesses and to consider the new regulatory framework and the UK banking reform. The new rules were created as a response on the most recent financial crises. The british regulation and supervision reform introduced the new regulatory bodies and distinguished the roles of microprudential and macroprudential regulation. The banking reform aim to create more stable and competitive basis for UK banking by increasing the quality and amount of the capital base and by isolation retail operations of the UK banks within separate subsidiaries. The thesis also assesses the likely impact of these reforms on UK banks and identify the weaknesses in the new rules. Whether the reforms succeed will depend on many factors and it has not been possible to answer this question yet.

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the develoment of banking system in the Czechoslovakia during Great Depression between years 1929 - 1933/34. For outlining the context, it is important to briefly focus on the characteristics of the great Depression, its course inthe Czechoslovakia and its impact on paticular sectors in the Economy. the main part od the thesis is focused on the National Bank in Czechoslovakia, its monetary policy and its behaviour during the Depression, and also on the impact of Depression on commercial banks.
Relation between macroeconomic fundamentals factors and firm efficiency

Relation between macroeconomic fundamentals factors and firm efficiency is a comparative study of influences of macroeconomic fundamentals factors on the efficiency of seven Czech commercial banks. The study defines efficieny through a combination of GDP, inflation, interest rates and exchange rate to trajecty of banks development following changes in macroeconomic factors between 2004-2007 using detailed financial agents. The several concluds that Czech commercial banks clearly reflect layer economy development and thus are a cornorstone of the Czech economy. This study is limited in it's short period.
